Reign leaves gaps

The Reign series finale started with Mary’s baby still missing after Lord Darnley kidnapped him. James came back and found the baby.

Meanwhile, Catherine made a deal with a witch to have Nicole killed. Nicole apparently was allergic to nuts. She ate soup that was thickened with nuts and Nicole died in Henry’s arms. He brought her back to the castle and he and Henry almost came to blows. Catherine was able to twist everything around so that the brothers realized Spain was to blame and they bonded over Nicole’s death.

In England, Elizabeth was facing war with Spain and discovered that the war would be costly and could make her more susceptible to an invasion from Scotland. She also killed Jane, her servant, who she discovered killed Lord Blackburn at Lord Narcisse’s bidding.

Later, Mary and Lord Bothwell decided that the best way to protect her son from Lord Darnley was to kill Darnley. Bothwell and a couple of guys, who later turned against him, blew up the house Darnley was hiding out in, but Darnley survived. Bothwell and Darnley fought and Bothwell strangled Darnley.

Catherine and Narcisse went to see the witch about payment and she drugged them. The witch told Catherine that her sons’ plan to attack Spain would fail and Catherine would be the scapegoat unless she had her daughter Margot at her side. Catherine went to Margot and told her it was time for Margot to come home.

Elizabeth received the letter from Mary in which Mary renounced her claim to Elizabeth’s throne. She then called off her engagement and prepared to go to war with Spain.

Bothwell then explained to Mary that their scheme to get rid of Darnley didn’t go as planned. Knox showed up with the two guys who were with Bothwell and had Mary and Bothwell arrested for Darnley’s murder.

We then jumped to 21 years later and Mary’s execution. The writers gave Mary a happy ending by reuniting her with Francis in death.

What the show skipped was that Mary had been on the run for a long time. She and Bothwell married after he had kidnapped her (not exactly the romance shown in Reign). Her marriage to Bothwell only fed the charges that she was involved in Darnley’s murder. He was eventually exiled and imprisoned until his death.

Mary escaped from Lochleven Castle and raised an army, but she was defeated and fled to England to seek help from her cousin Elizabeth. Instead of helping her, Elizabeth imprisoned Mary for 18 years. Mary wrote many letters to her son, James, asking for his help, but her letters were ignored. Elizabeth found out about letters Mary had been writing to Anthony Babington who had been plotting to kill Elizabeth and put Mary on the English throne. Elizabeth used those letters to justify Mary’s execution.

After all of the years spent fighting over each other’s thrones, Mary’s son became king of both countries because Elizabeth died without an heir. Also, they are buried near each other at Westminster Abbey.

What aggravated me the most about the series finale was that the writers didn’t say what happened to Catherine, Charles, and Henry. In case you are wondering, Charles was already dead from tuberculosis by the time Mary was executed. Henry, who had become king of Poland, abandoned the Polish throne to ascend to the throne in France. Catherine still served as regent until she died in January 1589. Henry was murdered eight months later by a friar.

What did you think of the series finale?

Designated Survivor: Hannah and Chuck almost die and the president resets the clock

Since taking a bullet, President Kirkman has been busy uncovering who blew up the US Capitol. He appointed Hannah Wells to conduct the investigation.

Hannah discovered that the mysterious woman working with the people behind the bombing and the murder of Jason Atwood’s son was Brooke Mathison. Unfortunately, Brooke figured out that Hannah was working with Chuck and she tried to kill both of them.

Jason followed Hannah to Brooke’s house. Brooke and Hannah fought, and Jason killed Brooke after she pulled a gun. Hannah then found out that the Capitol wasn’t the last attack planned. Whoever Brooke was working for plans to blow up the Golden Gate Bridge, Hoover Dam, and the Statue of Liberty.

Meanwhile, President Kirkman reset the clock on his first 100 days in office and set forth an ambitious plan that includes job creation and gun control. His former chief of staff, Aaron Shore, got a new job with Kimble Hookstraten.

The latest episode of Designated Survivor left me with many questions. Will Hannah find the people responsible for the Capitol bombing before another attack happens? Why are all of these attacks planned? Will President Kirkman pick a new vice president? Will Aaron return to the White House?

What do you think of the latest on Deisgnated Survivor?

Secrets and Lies: We know who did it (Spoiler Alert)

After ten intense episodes, we finally know who killed Kate on Secrets and Lies. Unlike the first season, I actually guessed this one early on, but couldn’t figure out the motive. So who did it? Amanda Warner, Eric’s sister. Why? I’ll get to that later.

Unfortunately for Eric, we discovered in the last couple of episodes that his family has major issues. His sister-in-law, Melanie, was running a brothel and will be doing time. His brother, Patrick, used the family business to get loans to buy houses, one of which housed the brothel, and he will be doing time for fraud.

Eric then discovered that his father had another family, which is why he was gone all the time. His half-brother from that family was the blackmailer. Obviously, he is also going to prison. Because the police needed the father’s testimony to put the half-brother away, the police decided not to charge him with bigamy.

Now, we get to Amanda, the only one who seemed to have it together, despite the separation from her husband. Why did she kill Kate? On the night of the party, she found out that Kate was pregnant. Amanda had been trying for a long time to have a baby with her husband, but couldn’t get pregnant, even with fertility treatments. She got upset with Kate and thought life was unfair. She grabbed Kate and told her how unfair it was that she couldn’t have kids and yet Kate was having one when she hadn’t even been trying. In her anger, she pushed Kate off the roof.

The real kicker was that Amanda was pregnant, but didn’t know until Cornell told her. Had Amanda done what the other Warners seem incapable of doing, which is keep her temper under control, she and Kate would have been having babies together.

Despite low ratings, the show ended with a cliffhanger. Cornell asks her daughter where her gun is and then hears the click of the gun behind her. We see Cornell turn with the gun she held in her hand and then we hear gunshots. Is Cornell dead?

I love this show and I really hope ABC brings it back for a third season. I’d like to know what happened to Cornell.

Did you know it was Amanda?

Designated Survivor: Will MacLeish be vice president?

Designated Survivor has been one of the most exciting shows this season. President Kirkman has faced many obstacles as he’s tried to find out who blew up the US Capitol and rebuild the government. Kirkman believes he captured the man responsible for the bombing, but we’ve learned through the FBI investigation, that’s not the case.

MacLeish survived for a reason. I’m confused as to how a secret bomb shelter could have been built inside the Capitol. It almost seems implausible, but I’ve been trying to go with it.

MacLeish is obviously working for someone powerful. Is that someone domestic or foreign? I haven’t figured it out and, every week, it drives me crazy, especially when MacLeish is on the screen.

I only hope Kirkman and his staff figure out that something isn’t right about MacLeish before he’s named the vice president. It’s quite apparent that vice president isn’t enough. Whoever is behind MacLeish wants him to be president, which means Kirkman’s life is in danger.

From the previews, it looks like the FBI is going to enlighten Kirkman about MacLeish. I hope that’s the case because his staff is ready to make him vice president based on some cursory check done by someone Aaron knows. I don’t trust Aaron. Why is he so eager to have MacLeish named vice president? He can’t even wait for the FBI’s investigation. It’s suspicious.

As you can see, I have lots of questions and no answers yet. Like Secrets and Lies, another one of my favorite shows, I get a new nugget of information each week, but then I’m left with more questions. I guess we’ll find out on Wednesday night if MacLeish is named vice president.

Do you think MacLeish will be vice president?

The Vampire Diaries: Bonnie needs to get her powers back

I’m a bit upset with the writers of The Vampire Diaries. At the end of last season, Bonnie lost her powers. I thought in the first couple of episodes of this season Bonnie would get her powers back, but she hasn’t and she needs them.

In a show dominated by vampires, Bonnie was refreshing. She’s intelligent and, over the years, they have relied on Bonnie to save the day more times than I can count. Now, the show has introduced a siren for the last season. We’ve been subjected to many episodes of Enzo and Damon doing the siren’s bidding. Because Bonnie hasn’t had powers, she hasn’t been able to take on the siren.

Granted, they caught the siren. But let’s face it, a showdown between the siren and a Bonnie with powers would have been more exciting. Maybe that’s where the story is going. I hope it is because Bonnie has always been my favorite character on the show (besides Damon, of course). But first, the writers have to come up with a creative way for Bonnie to get her powers back.

Bonnie could find a secret potion or she could have a near death experience and Caroline saves Bonnie with her blood, which miraculously brings Bonnie’s powers back. If the writers could bring Damon and Bonnie back from the other side, they can certainly make Bonnie a witch again.

Do you think Bonnie should get her powers back?
