The Vampire Diaries says goodbye

The series finale of The Vampire Diaries was bittersweet. I wish everyone had a happy ending, but they didn’t.

Vicki followed through on Katherine’s order to ring the bell. She released the hellfire that was supposed to destroy Mystic Falls. I say supposed to because it didn’t. Bonnie, as she did so many times during the series, saved the day.

She came up with a plan that would allow her to send the hellfire back to Hell and destroy it. To make sure Katherine was gone once and for all, someone had to ensure Katherine was in Hell at the time Bonnie destroyed it. Damon volunteered to do it and thought he compelled Stefan to leave him in the tunnel with Katherine. But Stefan had vervaine in him and couldn’t be compelled. Instead, Stefan gave Damon a shot of his blood, making Damon human. Stefan then stood in the tunnel and killed Katherine as the hellfire passed through.

I couldn’t believe Stefan died. I thought a miracle would happen and he would survive, but that didn’t happen. Like in many episodes over the years, I watched as everyone said goodbye to Stefan for one last time. I felt bad for Caroline. She ended up becoming a widow after being married for only one day.

In the end, Caroline opened up a new school for gifted children with Alaric and Jeremy came back to help them run it. It was named after Stefan.

Matt was still a cop in Mystic Falls and got a bench with his name on it.

Bonnie figured out how to break the spell on Elena. Once the spell was broken, Bonnie decided she was going to do what Enzo wanted and live life to the fullest. She planned to travel the world.

Elena and Damon were the only ones to get a true happy ending. Elena became a doctor and lived a long human life with Damon until they both died. In death, Elena was reunited with her family and Damon saw Stefan again.

Overall, I thought it was a good ending. It was touching to see the love between Stefan and Damon, and I loved that Bonnie finally got her powers back and saved the town.

The Vampire Diaries: Doesn’t Bonnie deserve some happiness?

This final season of The Vampire Diaries is supposed to be a short season, but it’s taking forever to get to where it’s going.

We finally got rid of the sirens only to have Cade in Mystic Falls. Cade is worse than the sirens. Damon, who now has his humanity back on, decides to try to kill Cade only to find out that he can’t be killed. Cade tells Damon that he has to kill 100 people or Caroline. He won’t kill Caroline and doesn’t want to kill 100 people.

Apparently, Cade gave Stefan the same deal. Stefan could kill 100 people or the love of Damon’s life, Elena. I’m disgusted by Stefan. I know his humanity is off, but I agree with Matt that it’s still him and, as far as I’m concerned, he did the unforgivable. He tore out Enzo’s heart in front of Bonnie in his quest to get to Elena.

The writers just seem to want to make Bonnie miserable. She can’t seem to have happiness. I thought for sure that she and Enzo were going to have a happy ending, even if he couldn’t take the cure. I actually liked her with Enzo more than Jeremy. The writers destroyed Bonnie and made me hate Stefan. I’m not sure the writers can redeem Stefan.

Luckily, Bonnie stabbed Stefan with the cure, which means he’ll now be human, but how will Bonnie ever look at him again. It doesn’t matter how guilty he feels for what he did or how sorry he is. He can’t bring Enzo back.

I’m tired of seeing Bonnie be miserable. I hope she’s able to have some sort of happy ending before the end of this series. I also hope that the blast of energy at the end of last week’s episode means that Bonnie has her powers back. Bonnie’s powers made the show more interesting and I’ve been waiting all season for her to get them back. I guess I’ll have to wait until the next episode to see what happens.

The Vampire Diaries: Not Another Doppelganger

When The Vampire Diaries ended last season, Silas revealed that Stefan is his doppelganger. Please say it isn’t so. Haven’t we had enough with Elena and Katherine? Do we really need another doppelganger storyline? Surely, the writers could have continued the Silas storyline without making Stefan a doppelganger.

Over the summer, I hoped and hoped that the writers weren’t going down the doppelganger road again. I thought in the first episode of this season the writers would explain that Silas was using his mind control power to make everyone see Stefan’s face. After all, he did that last season when he took on the appearance of other people. But alas, it appears we must endure yet another season of doppelganger craziness, unless the writers have a twist up their sleeves, which doesn’t appear to be the case at this point.

I’ve been a loyal fan for four years and plan on sticking with it for at least this season. I like the murder mystery Caroline and Elena are embroiled in and I’m hoping Bonnie will come back from the dead. If Qetsiyah can return from the dead, then there has to be a way for Bonnie to come back.

But I’m wondering if these storylines are enough to keep other fans around or if The Vampire Diaries lost a lot of its fans at the end of last season.

Are you still watching The Vampire Diaries? What do you think of Season 5? Have you had enough of doppelgangers?
