Jill’s chitchat: Jessica James confirmed to judge talent show

Former Broadway star, Jessica James, has been confirmed as one of the judges for the talent show. After some pretty intense negotiations (okay, they weren’t that intense), Miss James agreed to join the panel of judges that already includes Mayor Cord Bennett.

The top 20 acts have been chosen and I’m pleased to announce that some of the performers attend the Lincoln Falls School for the Arts, which is owned and run by Miss James. While Miss James is proud of her students, she said that she will be fair and will not favor her students over other acts.

I’m also pleased to announce that I’ve been asked to be the third judge. It is my first time judging and I couldn’t be more excited. I hope to see all of you at the Lincoln Falls Theater on October 20 when we will crown this year’s most talented person in Lincoln Falls.

Jill’s chitchat: Does Lincoln Falls have any talent?

It’s time for the annual Lincoln Falls talent show. Does Lincoln Falls have any real talent? We will find out once again when everyone lines up to audition at the Lincoln Falls Theater on Monday at 4 pm.

For the last three years, Scarlett Flynn has won for her yodeling expertise. I’m asking, no I’m begging, please don’t allow this to happen for a fourth year. Mrs. Flynn is a wonderful yodeler, but we must have someone in this town who can sing, dance, tell a joke, or do magic. If you can do any of these things, please show up at the auditions.

The 20 best acts will be chosen from all of those who audition and will perform on Friday, October 20.

Mayor Bennett is the only confirmed judge at this time. Former Broadway star, Jessica James, is said to be in discussions. It is unknown who will fill the third seat, but I’ve heard veterinarian, Will Banks, is on the short list, as is Lincoln Falls High football coach, Eric Mason.

See you next week!

Jill’s chitchat: Who’s the mayor’s mystery woman?

Mayor Cord Bennett was recently seen in Richmond with a tall, blond-haired woman. Since I reported this news, everyone in town has been asking who this mystery woman is.

There was some speculation that the mystery woman is a model, but I’ve discovered that she is not a model. She’s actually someone we all know well. The mystery woman is the mayor’s sister, Michelle. My source should have known who the woman was when he gave me the information. Apparently, he (Huck Lucas) left out some key information as did my other sources who helped me verify Huck Lucas’s story.

The good news is Michelle Bennett is back. She’s been working in Boston for the last few years, but she is returning to her hometown of Lincoln Falls. Rumor has it that she is in the market for a townhouse.

Why is she coming back to Lincoln Falls? It is unclear, but I will let everyone know as soon as I have more information. Stay tuned!

Jill’s chitchat: Are the mayor and Misty Saunders over?

Misty Saunders is off to Europe with her sister. She claims she had planned the trip before she started dating Mayor Bennett, but rumor has it that she decided to go on the trip after the mayor broke her heart.

As she climbed into the taxi, tears were falling. The mayor was not there to say goodbye. It is unclear what happened, although there is speculation that the mayor is dating a model. He was recently seen in Richmond with a tall, blond-haired woman.

The once happy couple was recently seen at the Coffee Carafe. They were laughing while drinking cafe lattes. That happiness was short-lived as it appears that Misty has become another addition to the mayor’s long list of exes.

Jill’s chitchat: Doughnut shortage in Lincoln Falls

I’m sad to report that we will have a doughnut shortage for the next couple of days in Lincoln Falls. The owner of Half-Baked, Mr. Sloane, said an unnamed worker, who has now been dismissed, added too much baking powder to the doughnut batter, causing the doughnuts to rise and then spread all over the ovens.

Mr. Sloane claims he’s never seen anything like it. Dough even seeped through the doors of the ovens.

Half-Baked is known for its baked doughnuts, a healthy alternative to fried doughnuts. I personally love the blueberry glazed doughnut and I’m not sure how I’ll get through Sunday morning without one.

The ovens will be professionally cleaned and Mr. Sloane says he should have doughnuts ready on Monday morning. I’ll be the first one in line to get my doughnut.

In the meantime, if you are in serious need of a doughnut, you’ll have to go over the town line to get a standard fried one.

See you on Monday at Half-Baked!

Jill’s chitchat: Interview with Lissa de la Fuente

Jill: I have a special guest this week — Lissa de la Fuente. She was recently promoted to vice principal of Lincoln Falls High School. Congratulations on the new job!

Ms. de la Fuente: Thank you.

Jill: Next week, school starts and I’ve heard you have a message for all of the students.

Ms. de la Fuente: Principal Little has asked me to tell everyone about some changes to the curriculum this year.

Jill:  Oh, this sounds exciting. What do the students have to look forward to?

Ms. de la Fuente: This year, the AP Biology class will have a mandatory field trip to a morgue to examine the human body.

Jill: That seems morbid.

Ms. de la Fuente: It is, but Principal Little thinks it will be an enriching experience.

Jill: What other changes are coming?

Ms. de la Fuente: All tenth grade students will be required to complete their civics hours at a prison. They will be helping the prisoners with their community service.

Jill: Isn’t that a bit extreme?

Ms. de la Fuente: Principal Little believes it will make an impression on the students.

Jill: I believe it will. Is the principal trying to have fewer prisoners in the future?

Ms. de la Fuente: Principal Little wants the students to appreciate fully what prison is like.

Jill: Interesting. Any other changes?

Ms. de la Fuente: The last big change is for this year’s freshmen. They will be required to attend a retreat on teamwork. The retreat will include a survival lesson in which the students will be taken to a remote location and will have to survive on their own for a week.

Jill: What?! That seems crazy. Has the school board approved these changes?

Ms. de la Fuente: They have. They claim that Principal Little is a trailblazer.

Jill: The students are certainly going to have an exciting school year.

Ms. de la Fuente: They are and I look forward to seeing all of them on Monday.

Jill: Thank you for your time.

Ms. de la Fuente: This was a pleasure. Thank you.

Jill: Good luck to all of the students starting school next week.

Jill’s chitchat: Solar eclipse party on Main Street

The mayor has decided to close down Main Street for a solar eclipse party. Come join the fun from 1 pm to 5 pm.

The mayor has enlisted the help of the Lilies of Lincoln Falls. Mrs. Scarlett Flynn is taking the lead and has a variety of games lined up, including a game of eclipse Bingo. I’m not sure what that is, but I can’t wait to find out.

For those of you who love to bake, there will be a pie contest. This one is for you Cheryl, the queen of the cherry pie. You make me want to break up with someone just so I can receive one of your pies.

Of course, in Lincoln Falls, we can’t have a pie contest without a pie eating contest. Everyone get your stomachs ready for this one. I’ve heard Huck Lucas is planning to go for his 20th consecutive win.

Special solar eclipse glasses will be required. Brothers Diner and the Shake and Scoop already have some in stock if you’d like to go and pick them up for free.

See you there!

Jill’s chitchat: The Mayor is caught kissing Misty Saunders

Mayor Cord Bennett’s door keeps revolving and the current woman through his door is Misty Saunders, a Lily of Lincoln Falls member who is well-known for her break-up pumpkin loaf.

The couple was seen together at the Coffee Carafe chatting and laughing over cafe lattes. As they left, the mayor was seen leaning in for a kiss. The Coffee Carafe is not Mayor Bennett’s typical location for a date. He usually prefers taking his dates into Richmond.

Misty Saunders also isn’t his usual type. Everyone knows the mayor prefers blondes and Misty Saunders has copper red hair. Is he expanding his repertoire?

Since he’s taking a break from his type, I wonder if this relationship might be more permanent. Oh wait, I forgot who I was talking about. The mayor does temporary, not permanent.

This whole relationship has me confused and I’m left with many questions that I hope will be answered in coming weeks, if the relationship lasts that long. With the mayor’s track record, I have a feeling that Misty Saunders will soon be baking her break-up pumpkin loaf for herself.

Jill’s chitchat: Lucas boys fight over a woman

The Lucas boys recently took to online dating. Somehow, they managed to find a woman who is interested in them. You read correctly. I said “woman,” not “women.” Apparently, the Lucas boys have fallen in love with the same woman.

They have been dating her for the last three weeks, but didn’t know they were dating the same woman until last night when she met them at Rowdy’s. Believe it or not, one Lucas wasn’t enough for her. Pick your mouths up off the floor. I’m stunned too.

At exactly 8 pm last night, Huck and Tuck entered Rowdy’s, thinking they were going on a double date. Seeing the woman at the bar, they both walked up to her and then realized they were there to meet the same woman.

An argument ensued and the woman high-tailed it out of the bar as Huck punched Tuck in the nose. Tuck tackled Huck and fists flew. Cooper Rowdy jumped into the melee and finally was able to separate them.

I’ve found out that Huck and Tuck are currently not speaking. Huck has moved out of their house and is now living in the barn. They also have deleted their online dating profiles.

The ladies of Lincoln Falls beware because I have a feeling it won’t be long until the Lucas boys are on the prowl again.

Jill’s chitchat: Headbangers get record deal

You’ve enjoyed them for years at Rowdy’s and now everyone will be able to hear their music because our very own Headbangers have scored a record deal. You’ll be able to buy their albums in stores and online.

I’ve heard that their first album will contain favorites like “Love Is Worse Than a Mosquito Bite,” “Stick Your Hand in a Socket,” “Eat Like a Fly,” and “Get Your Own Tractor.”

Because they have to hit the recording studio soon, they’ll be going on hiatus from Rowdy’s. You can catch their last show this Friday. I hope to see you there.

I’ll be back next week!
