Papá a Toda Madre ends

I didn’t blog much about this novela, but I loved it and it might actually be one of my favorites. Not only did it have drama, but it was funny. I laughed out loud at some of Mauricio’s antics.

Here’s a recap of the novela and all of its happy endings.

As I suspected, Fabián was Anifer’s real father. For awhile, he was fine with Mauricio keeping her. Unfortunately for Anifer, Fabián decided he wanted to be recognized as Anifer’s father. I don’t think he really had any interest in Anifer. He was merely looking for a way to hurt Mauricio. Apparently, taking Logatoys from him wasn’t enough.

Fabián went crazy. He tried to force María and Anifer to live with him, which made Anifer not like him at all. She wanted Mauricio. As a true hero, Mauricio got Anifer and María away from Fabián who then went into hiding until the grand opening for Anitoys. Fabián decided he was going to burn down the plant. He didn’t realize Anifer was in the factory until Mauricio told him. Mauricio and Fabián went into the factory to save Anifer and Fabián didn’t get out. It was a fitting end.

Mauricio ended up happy with Anifer and Renée, even though Renée decided to leave to go back to school. She and Mauricio kept it going and, at the end, we found out that Renée was pregnant. Through the course of the show, Renée also found her father, Noel, and yes, she and Fabián were siblings.

As for the others, Jorge finally kicked Dulce out and told Kika that he loved her. Lili and Pablo had a baby boy. Toño became a stand-up comic, which was odd, but probably the best career for him. Nerón finally asked Flor to marry him and she said yes. Rodrigo and Rafael adopted a boy and girl.

It was a finale that was full of happy endings. This one didn’t become the Shakespearean tragedy that a lot of novelas become at the end. The only thing that could have made this one better was Mauricio getting down on one knee to ask Renée to marry him, but I guess we can assume that’s going to happen.

Jill’s chitchat: Are the mayor and Misty Saunders over?

Misty Saunders is off to Europe with her sister. She claims she had planned the trip before she started dating Mayor Bennett, but rumor has it that she decided to go on the trip after the mayor broke her heart.

As she climbed into the taxi, tears were falling. The mayor was not there to say goodbye. It is unclear what happened, although there is speculation that the mayor is dating a model. He was recently seen in Richmond with a tall, blond-haired woman.

The once happy couple was recently seen at the Coffee Carafe. They were laughing while drinking cafe lattes. That happiness was short-lived as it appears that Misty has become another addition to the mayor’s long list of exes.

La Doble Vida de Estela Carrillo: The first season ends

The first season of La Doble Vida de Estela Carrillo has come to an end and it was pretty awesome.

The real Estela Carrillo returned after supposedly escaping from El Dorado. Everyone believed her story, except for Milton who found out the truth. Poor Milton didn’t get to tell anyone because Estela took him out. What did Milton know? Estela is El Dorado.

Asdrubal was her right-hand man and lover. He was jealous of Ryan and wanted Estela for himself. Estela though was obsessed with Ryan and double-crossed Asdrubal by sending him to meet Danilo with an unloaded gun. Asdrubal fired his gun at Danilo and, when Danilo saw the gun was empty, he didn’t hesitate to fire and kill Asdrubal.

Laura goes to see Estela and all of the secrets come out. Estela killed her father, Pedro, after he told her the truth about her parents. Estela is Mercy’s missing daughter, which means that Ryan is her brother. I’m sick to my stomach at this moment. Estela is in love with her brother. After Estela goes into hiding, Laura confronts Mercy and Mercy makes Laura promise that she won’t tell Ryan the truth.

Meanwhile, Danilo sold Morgana to El Sagrado. She’s disgusted and upset with Danilo because he keeps lying to her. Morgana asks El Sagrado if she can go see her sister. She goes to a car dealership and asks her sister to keep her guard busy so she can take a car for a test drive and meet Danilo. Her sister agrees and Morgana confronts Danilo who spews more lies. She’s had enough and shoots him.

He looked a bit bulky to me. I thought he had on a bulletproof vest and I was right. After calling Laura and telling her that he’s dying, Laura and Ryan go out to the scene and Danilo’s not there and a bulletproof vest is found. I was thrilled.

We fast forward a year and Laura has had her baby. Furia Productions is now Regia Productions. Leticia is a successful tailor and Chavalin reopened his bakery. Morgana is marrying El Sagrado.

Estela is in an airport, waiting for someone. That someone turns out to be Joe. Mercy thought the jerk had gone back to his wife and family. He didn’t. For some reason, he decided to be with a criminal.

As they get up to board the plane, Danilo appears. Estela feels something is wrong, but she doesn’t see Danilo.

Laura wins the award for Best Album of the year. She gives a great speech and at the end spots someone or something in the crowd. Ryan turns and spots the same thing and it ends. We have to wait until the second season to find out what they saw.

The Bachelorette: Rachel got her ring [Spoiler Alert]

Rachel got what she wanted. She got her ring and is now engaged to Bryan. This one was not a shocker. I think everyone knew she was going to end up with him.

The only shocker in the finale was the goodbye to Eric. I thought the final two would be Eric and Bryan. I was wrong. She kept Peter, even though they had countless conversations about how he wasn’t ready to propose. I respect him for sticking to his decision.

Because she kept him around, their last date wasn’t pleasant. It was more of the same. Rachel harped on how she went on the show for a ring and Peter told her again that he wasn’t ready. Eventually, she gave Peter what I consider to be an ultimatum — either he proposes or she walks — which is not a great way to start what is supposed to be the rest of their lives together.

Even though they both cried, said I love you, and didn’t want to say goodbye, they did. Peter didn’t make it to the rose ceremony.

To me, this means Bryan won by default. If Peter had been ready to propose, I question whether she would have picked Bryan.

So yes, Rachel got her ring, but for how long? A ring is only a piece of jewelry. It’s not a commitment. I can’t help but feel that she chose a ring over love.

What do you think of Rachel’s choice?

The Bachelorette: Why is Rachel pushing for a ring?

After the last couple of episodes of The Bachelorette, I’m frustrated with Rachel. She keeps saying she went on there to get a ring. She wants to be engaged by the end of the show.

I don’t understand why she’s pushing so hard for an engagement. Some people are able to fall in love during the show (e.g., Trista and Ryan) and some aren’t. In some cases, it might take time beyond the show and, in my opinion, that’s realistic. It’s not until after the show that they really get to know each other.

All of this leads me to the issue Rachel has with Peter. He’s not ready to propose to her. Because he’s not willing to propose, I have a feeling she’s going to be saying bye to Peter next. I think it’s unfair to Peter if she really feels something for him, but I don’t think she does. If she did, I don’t think the proposal or lack thereof would be that big a deal. Dating after the show wouldn’t be an issue.

Will Rachel be engaged at the end of the show? Yes, despite all of the second guessing and tears, I have no doubt that she will be engaged, but it won’t be to Peter. I still say she’s going to choose Bryan and I’m not convinced he’s the right choice. As I said in my previous post, The Bachelorette: Who should Rachel choose?, Rachel shouldn’t choose any of them.

Do you think Rachel will get engaged?

La Doble Vida de Estela Carrillo: Laura/Estela is free

After so many episodes of La Doble Vida de Estela Carrillo in which Mr. Blake held Laura/Estela and Paloma captive, they are finally free. Asdrúbal went to see Blake and told him that he needed Laura/Estela released. He only agreed to go to Blake after Ryan found the money that Danilo had been laundering and lost. Blake reluctantly let Laura/Estela and Paloma go after a heated conversation with Senator Logan. Basically, Logan reminded Blake that El Dorado knows a lot about Blake and could end his bid for mayor.

Meanwhile, Leticia finally left Tom after talking to his ex-wife, Felicia. She went to the police station and reported Tom. She then went back to the hotel and packed her stuff up. Unfortunately, she wasn’t fast enough because Tom arrived before she could leave and started his usual begging routine. For once, Leticia didn’t listen to him. She walked out the door, leaving him behind. The police showed up and Tom decided to escape out the window. He thought he was home free, but he ran into Danilo who choked him to death for stealing the money. Yes, Tom finally got what he deserved.

In other news, Blake let La Toña go and Morgana helped Tadeo with his music career.

La Doble Vida de Estela Carrillo: Ryan knows about Laura’s past

La Doble Vida de Estela Carrillo has been full of action. Usually, Danilo is on the bad end of that action. I don’t think I’ve seen an actor take so many beatings in a novela. Danilo constantly has bruises and cuts.

Thankfully, for Danilo’s sake, the writers decided to give Danilo a break and put Ryan in the hospital this time. Ryan was shot in an assassination attempt on Laura/Estela. La Toña tried to have Estela killed and Ryan was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Laura/Estela explained her past to Ryan. She was a prostitute for La Toña and was beaten many times.

She’s afraid Ryan will look at her differently now that he knows the truth. Instead, Ryan only feels anger and wants to get vengeance for both of them.

El Dorado sent a basket to Ryan’s hospital room with a note. He wants Ryan’s shares in Furia and he wants Ryan to break up with Laura/Estela. Laura/Estela finds out later that El Dorado wants her to be with Asdrúbal.

Meanwhile, Danila found Calao hanging from a tree. He paid a visit to El Dorado’s house only to be stopped by Asdrúbal who told Danilo to focus on the money laundering. Danilo is such scum. The only good thing he’s done in recent weeks is rescue Paloma after she was kidnapped. Of course, if it hadn’t been for Danilo’s business dealings, Paloma never would have been kidnapped.

Mr. Blake is still around and he’s trying to find Laura/Estela. He kidnapped La Toña, thinking she would have information about Laura/Estela. He finds out Laura, Estela and Regia are all the same person.

Now for the most aggravating person on the show — Leticia. She is still with Tom, even though he beat up her son, pushed her daughter around, and beat her. Tom only stopped hitting Leticia because she announced that she was pregnant. He was filled with apologies for hitting her. How long do you think he’ll be sorry? My bet is not long.

The police showed up at their house, but Leticia didn’t press charges. Her kids wisely left and moved in with their father. I’m wondering what is planned for Leticia because Tom is so violent that he could kill her.

Reign leaves gaps

The Reign series finale started with Mary’s baby still missing after Lord Darnley kidnapped him. James came back and found the baby.

Meanwhile, Catherine made a deal with a witch to have Nicole killed. Nicole apparently was allergic to nuts. She ate soup that was thickened with nuts and Nicole died in Henry’s arms. He brought her back to the castle and he and Henry almost came to blows. Catherine was able to twist everything around so that the brothers realized Spain was to blame and they bonded over Nicole’s death.

In England, Elizabeth was facing war with Spain and discovered that the war would be costly and could make her more susceptible to an invasion from Scotland. She also killed Jane, her servant, who she discovered killed Lord Blackburn at Lord Narcisse’s bidding.

Later, Mary and Lord Bothwell decided that the best way to protect her son from Lord Darnley was to kill Darnley. Bothwell and a couple of guys, who later turned against him, blew up the house Darnley was hiding out in, but Darnley survived. Bothwell and Darnley fought and Bothwell strangled Darnley.

Catherine and Narcisse went to see the witch about payment and she drugged them. The witch told Catherine that her sons’ plan to attack Spain would fail and Catherine would be the scapegoat unless she had her daughter Margot at her side. Catherine went to Margot and told her it was time for Margot to come home.

Elizabeth received the letter from Mary in which Mary renounced her claim to Elizabeth’s throne. She then called off her engagement and prepared to go to war with Spain.

Bothwell then explained to Mary that their scheme to get rid of Darnley didn’t go as planned. Knox showed up with the two guys who were with Bothwell and had Mary and Bothwell arrested for Darnley’s murder.

We then jumped to 21 years later and Mary’s execution. The writers gave Mary a happy ending by reuniting her with Francis in death.

What the show skipped was that Mary had been on the run for a long time. She and Bothwell married after he had kidnapped her (not exactly the romance shown in Reign). Her marriage to Bothwell only fed the charges that she was involved in Darnley’s murder. He was eventually exiled and imprisoned until his death.

Mary escaped from Lochleven Castle and raised an army, but she was defeated and fled to England to seek help from her cousin Elizabeth. Instead of helping her, Elizabeth imprisoned Mary for 18 years. Mary wrote many letters to her son, James, asking for his help, but her letters were ignored. Elizabeth found out about letters Mary had been writing to Anthony Babington who had been plotting to kill Elizabeth and put Mary on the English throne. Elizabeth used those letters to justify Mary’s execution.

After all of the years spent fighting over each other’s thrones, Mary’s son became king of both countries because Elizabeth died without an heir. Also, they are buried near each other at Westminster Abbey.

What aggravated me the most about the series finale was that the writers didn’t say what happened to Catherine, Charles, and Henry. In case you are wondering, Charles was already dead from tuberculosis by the time Mary was executed. Henry, who had become king of Poland, abandoned the Polish throne to ascend to the throne in France. Catherine still served as regent until she died in January 1589. Henry was murdered eight months later by a friar.

What did you think of the series finale?

Arrow ends the season with a bang

After 22 episodes of Arrow, we finally got the fight between Oliver and Adrian Chase (a.k.a., Prometheus).

Adrian kidnapped Oliver’s team and his son and brought them all to Lian Yu. Oliver knows he can’t take on Adrian and his thugs alone so he recruits Nyssa and Malcolm Merlyn (actually, Malcolm volunteered himself). On the island, Oliver breaks Slade Wilson and Boomerang out of the A.R.G.U.S. prison. The Mirakuru wore off and Slade is sane again, though surprised Oliver would ask for his help.

Oliver and his new recruits meet up with Malcolm and Nyssa on the beach just in time for Adrian to blow up their plane with an RPG. Nyssa and Malcolm go off to check on where the RPG came from. Oliver, Boomerang, and Slade try to track where William’s call came from only to find part of his team and William’s mother locked up in cages.

They figure out that it’s a trap when they notice that there are no guards around and Evelyn appears in front of them. Boomerang pulls out a gun that Adrian had given him. Boomerang gives Slade the choice of changing sides and, at first, it appears Slade is joining Adrian’s side, but Slade then declines. A fight ensues, but Thalia and Boomerang disappear when Nyssa and Malcolm show up.

They get everyone out of the cages and Oliver and Felicity share a tender moment. He has Malcolm take everyone to Adrian’s plane so they can go back to the mainland. On the way to the plane, Thea steps on a landmine. Malcolm pushes her off to take her place and tells all of them to go just as Boomerang and Adrian’s thugs show up. There’s an explosion and we are supposed to assume that Malcolm died. I’m not convinced. He seems to appear out of nowhere so I wouldn’t be surprised if he somehow survived.

Oliver, Slade, and Nyssa find the rest of the team at an old temple. Slade pretends to turn on Oliver and Oliver gets locked up with everyone. Oliver gives Dinah the contraption that Curtis made and it gives Dinah her voice back. She does her thing and frees everyone.

Adrian then shows up and Oliver tells him that he’ll never kill him. They fight, while Oliver’s team takes on Adrian’s thugs. Their fight ends with Oliver’s arms around Adrian’s neck. Adrian urges Oliver to kill him, but Oliver tells him that killing is in his past. It’s not who he is anymore. Oliver lets him go and Adrian escapes by using a smoke bomb.

Oliver tells his team to meet up with the others and he goes after Adrian. The team discovers that the plane can’t be flown and the entire island is rigged with explosives that will go off if Adrian dies. Oliver tells them to have Slade lead them to a supply ship on the other side of the island.

Oliver sees Adrian trying to escape the island on a boat. Oliver runs and leaps onto the boat. Again, they fight and Adrian pulls William out from inside the boat. Adrian basically tells Oliver there’s no way he can win. If he kills Adrian, the entire island will blow up. If Oliver allows Adrian to kill William, Oliver’s friends will live, but his son will be dead.

In the end, Oliver puts an arrow in Adrian’s leg and pulls William toward him. Of course, we couldn’t just have a happy ending though. Adrian pulls out a gun and shoots himself in the head. The finale ended with Lian Yu going up in flames.

I don’t care much for the flashbacks so all I’ll say is the flashbacks showed Oliver kill Kovar. They also showed how Oliver made himself look like he’d been on the island for years and ended up on the boat that took him home.

I’ll be curious in the fall to see which characters didn’t make it. After the kiss Felicity and Oliver shared, I think it’s safe to say Felicity will definitely be back and we might get some Olicity next season.

As far as villains go, Adrian/Promotheus was good this year, but I’m hoping for a bigger and badder villain. Adrian seemed more obsessed with Oliver and bringing him down than in doing destruction to Star City. It would be nice to see a villain that is a bigger threat to the city than Adrian was (e.g., Slade Wilson and his minions in Season 2).

What did you think of the finale? Any thoughts on Season 6?
